University of Thi-Qar Journal for Engineering Sciences

Detailed overview of the double-blind review process, editorial policies, and step-by-step submission workflow.

Review Process Overview

The journal adopts a double-blind review process closely monitored by editors. Editors perform an initial editorial review to assess quality and submission type before initiating formal review. Manuscripts failing to meet scientific standards, readability parameters, or correct grammatical usage will not be considered or may face requests for resubmission.

Referees advise on scientific merit and broad readership appeal. Editors maintain periodic contact with reviewers regarding deadlines. Once reviews are in-house, the handling editor typically makes a decision within a day or two and contacts the corresponding author.

Authors may differ with reviewer comments using a rational explanation, which editors examine and may return to the referee; however, offensive remarks on reviewer comments will result in cancellation of publication. Editorial assessment also occurs after the referee process before final recommendation.

All efforts are made to complete the entire process within three months from submission, with the first status decision averaging 30 days.

The review process is conducted entirely online and digitally through the submission system, with email contact restricted to those unable to use the online platform.

Submission & Peer Review Process (Key Steps)

  • Author submits all required materials, including copyright form and a separate cover letter.
  • Editors check if the article is within broad scope and has sufficient merit, evaluating readability, grammar, and usage. Technical rejections occur if author names/affiliations appear in the main manuscript, if referenced tables/figures are missing, or if author instructions are ignored. Authors are informed quickly of early rejections.
  • Following initial approval, completed submissions are sent to two or three reviewers.
  • Reviewers assess the article and return it to the editorial office.
  • The Editor-in-Chief releases reviews to the authors.
  • Authors respond to reviewers and make necessary corrections.
  • The article is sent out for re-review.
  • The Editor-in-Chief may accept, reject, accept with minor alterations, or send out for a third review.
  • Upon acceptance, authors submit the final version, which enters the publisher's "in-press" queue.
  • Prior to publication, the publisher sends galleys to authors; no edits are permitted after galley approval.
  • The article is printed in UTJES.
