Self-Archiving Policy
University of Thi-Qar Journal for Engineering Sciences (UTJES) supports authors' rights to share and archive their work, in line with the principles of Green Open Access. Authors publishing in UTJES retain the right to self-archive their work as outlined below.
1. Versions covered
- Submitted Version (Preprint): The author's original manuscript prior to peer review.
- Accepted Version (Postprint/Author's Accepted Manuscript, AAM): The peer-reviewed, revised manuscript accepted for publication, but without journal formatting, copyediting, or typesetting.
- Published Version (Version of Record, VoR): The final, formatted, and typeset version published by UTJES, including DOI and citation information.
2. Archiving permissions
| Version | Where it may be archived | When |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted Version (Preprint) | Personal website, institutional repository, preprint servers (e.g., arXiv, ResearchGate) | At any time, before or after submission |
| Accepted Version (AAM) | Personal website, institutional or subject repository (non-commercial) | Immediately upon acceptance, no embargo period |
| Published Version (VoR) | Institutional repository, personal website, subject repository | Immediately upon publication, provided the source is cited and linked to the DOI |
3. Conditions of self-archiving
Authors self-archiving any version of their article must:
- Include a full citation to the published version, including the DOI link (e.g., "This article has been published in the University of Thi-Qar Journal for Engineering Sciences, [Volume(Issue)], [Year]. DOI: [link]").
- Acknowledge UTJES as the original place of publication.
- Not use the published PDF/typeset layout for the Accepted Version unless it is the Version of Record.
- Apply the same license under which the article was published (UTJES publishes under CC BY 4.0, permitting free reuse, distribution, and archiving with proper attribution).
4. No embargo period
Because UTJES is a fully Open Access journal publishing under CC BY 4.0, there is no embargo period for self-archiving any version of the manuscript. Authors may deposit their work in repositories immediately upon acceptance or publication.
5. Recommended repositories
Authors are encouraged to deposit their work in:
- Institutional repositories (e.g., University of Thi-Qar repository)
- Recognized subject repositories (e.g., arXiv for relevant engineering subfields)
- ResearchGate, ORCID-linked profiles, or academic personal pages
6. Rationale
This policy is designed to maximize the visibility, citation potential, and accessibility of UTJES-published research while ensuring proper attribution and version transparency, in accordance with COPE and international open-access norms (e.g., Sherpa/RoMEO, DOAJ best practice guidelines).
